Janice Venables was appointed to serve on the Borough Council in 1999 to fill a vacancy.  She ran that same year, and was elected and started serving her first full term in 2000.  She ran successfully again in 2003, 2006 and 2009 and she is currently serving her fourth full term on the Borough Council.  She also serves as Council President.

Councilwoman Venables has served on several Council committees, among which are  Land Use, LOSAP, parks, recreation, library and downtown improvement.  She currently is serving on Municipal Court, Shade Tree Committee, Legislation, Library, Downtown Planning COAH and Land Use.

Among the Council initiatives and projects that Councilwoman Venables is proud to have been a part of are the establishment of the business improvement district, the improvements to the boardwalk and arch area, the retail-only ordinance for Third Avenue, and in general, a wholesale change in the way business is conducted by local government.  She is happy to be a member of a politically diverse yet productive Council which focuses on solutions and welcomes the efforts of numerous volunteer groups who have all made important contributions to the quality of life in the Borough, such as the Women's Club (boardwalk benches), the Preservation Alliance (grant money for the planning and construction of the Historic First Aid Building), the Spring Lake Conservancy (light fixtures for the new Ocean Ave. arches), the Business Improvement District (improvements to the downtown), the Friends of the Spring Lake Five (numerous monetary contributions to many Borough projects, including the boardwalk extension) and many more.

Mrs. Venables is an attorney and practices in Manasquan for the Law Office of Joseph A. DiCroce, LLC.   She is married to Steve Venables and they have four daughters, Erin, Leslie, Deirdre and Carrie.  They have lived in Spring Lake for nearly 25 years.
